New Lexus LF-C2 Concept

When Lexus debuted the Lexus LF-LC in 2012 it excited the world of enthusiasts. Lexus had created a beautiful sports coupe and promised a high-power hybrid powertrain would power it. That car has yet to see production as of November 2014, but it seems that things are likely getting closer. Lexus has just announced that there will be an LF-C2 concept arriving at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2014.

The only thing we know for sure is that the new car is an “open-air concept.” With that said, I expect it to be a convertible version of the LF-LC coupe. The design should be altered slightly to be more production friendly, and of course it will be topless, but otherwise, I don’t expect to see too many of those swoopy shapes disappear.

Lexus has still been quiet on what actually powers the new hybrid sports car, but it may use this new model to help shed some light on things. We do expect the car to be competitive with machines like the BMW i8 and perhaps the upcoming Acura NSX. That means a relatively small engine with forced induction coupled to a rather powerful set of electric motors. Total horsepower should live in the 400 range, and a 0-to-60 sprint should take no more than 4.5 seconds, or so.
